When was hypnosis for childbirth first used in western society?
I believe that hypnosis for childbirth in western society was used at least 150 years ago but I am unable to find any references to support this. I understand that that ancient Greek physicians used hypnotic methods with birthing women. What I am looking for is references to modern western culture and hypnosis for childbirth. If you answer kindly supply any references that you have.
Thanks Tom R. I didn’t know that it was recorded in cuneiform writings. But I what I am asking is who started using hypnosis for childbirth first in the last 150 to 200 years because before that the art of hypnosis had been lost for centuries.
admin answers:
there are cuneiform tablets telling how to do it in the London museum-these pre date the pyramids.
I teach all my students pain control via glove anesthesia it may be one of the most valuable things they learn.

Mandy asks…
Is hypnosis really working for painless childbirth?
I saw this program www.hypno-beginning.com and the testimonials are raving. Can painless childbirth really be accomplished with hypnosis?
admin answers:
I used the frech version of hypno-beginning created by the same doctor and hypnotist called www.hypno-vie.com and I had a fabulous birth! (felt pressure in the last 10 minutes)

Pregnancy Hypnosis Childbirth?
Hi
I am in my 9th month of pregnancy and I just heard about hypnosis childbirth. I was wondering if anyone used this, how well did it work for you and if you can give me some tips on how to use it.
Thanks
)
admin answers:
I have heard a little about hypnobirthing. I think it is a little bit similar to the Bradley method. I used the Bradley method with all four of mine. It really works great. However, I think the 9th month is probably too late to be able to learn what you need to be able to do the Bradley method. It took at least two months of daily practice for me to be able to do the Bradley method. I used the book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way.

Thomas asks…
Anyone know anything about self hypnosis as a method of pain relief during childbirth?
I read some articles on this a few years ago but now I am expecting am more interested. Has anyone tried self hypnosis during labour? Where do you learn? I am UK based so you have to do it there.
Of use or am I better spending it on lottery tickets!
admin answers:
You may want to check out HYpnotherapists who specialise in something called Hypnobirthing, there are many around and facilitate a pain free childbirth.
Its less traumatic for the baby as well if you are still fully functioning physically during childbirth. Speak to some hypnotherpaist and shop around and maybe consider going for a session with one that you trust.
I am a clinical hypnotherapist and have successfully helped many people with pain relief through hypnosis. I do not specialise in Hypnobirthing myself as I chose to specialise in something else.
Just do a search on the net for Hypnotherapists, there are many available, and check for their specialisms. Always go with a therapist who is registered with a UK national body like the NCH, or the GHR. And look forward to a pain free childbirth.
Congratulations and best wishes BTW

Carol asks…
Does hypnosis work for childbirth?
I am considering doing hypnosis classes for the birth of my coming child. I have never done hypnosis, but it was highly recommended by a co-worker.
I just wanted to know if anyone has tried it and what they thought. Were drugs/epidural used as well as hypnosis? Was a hypnosis coach present at birth?
I would appreciate any information you can give. Thanks
