Hypnobirthing vs Hypnobabies?
I am planning to birth at home. This will be my first birthing experience. I’ve thought about doing a hypno class, but don’t know which would be better. Has anyone experienced either the hypnobirthing or hypnobabies class? What is your opinion on it? Did it help you? Is it worth the money? Thanks.

I’ve sat through a hypnobirthing class and thought it had really great coping skills that it teaches and have seen it used effectively during birth and heard women rave about their almost pain-free births with this method (and some that were surprised by the pain that they weren’t prepared for). I haven’t been to a hypnobabies class but my understanding is that they give more information about other things as well that hypnobirthing might not cover (more information about pregnancy, birth and postpartum) and uses medical hypnosis techniques. Hypnobirthing was the first class and there is some controversy that hypnobabies stole the model.
They are very similar as well…you might consider meeting with each of the instructors and seeing who you bond with and who you think will deliver the information in a way that you can relate to.
And yes, if you are considering a drug-free birth (and obviously you are), I’d HIGHLY recommend taking a birthing class such as a hypno-class! Or, you might look into Birthing From Within as an alternative model – but of course I’m biased
Good luck at choosing a class!

Calling all mothers with experience in Hypnobirthing?
I am 27 weeks pregnant with my first child and have recently discovered hypnobirthing. It has always been my preference to have a drug-free home birth (providing all goes to plan) but it is only recently that I have been enlightened to the possibility of a relaxed child birth. Until then I was just expecting to be in agony and have to scream through it.
I invested in the book “Hypnobirthing: the Marie Mongon Method” and read it within 8 hours. Having familiarised myself with at least the theory of hypnobirthing, I am now determined to attempt this method of relaxed peaceful childbirth – for my daughters sake more than anything. The only problem is that I don’t think I will be able to take the supplementary hypnobirthing classes before my baby comes.
To begin with I was concerned about cost, but as there tend to be several concession-based systems in place in the UK, I decided to chase it up anyway on the off chance that I could pay in installments. However, upon searching the web, I have found that perhaps partly because it’s the lead up to Christmas, but mainly because hypnobirthing doesn’t seem to be at all prevalent in my area, it’s looking less and less as though I will have access to anything other than the internet, my book and the C.D. that came with it.
My question is this: As I feel I have a fairly good grasp of what the book is trying to communicate (despite it not being as able to actually show me in a practical way as they could in the lessons) Will I still be able to employ the methods I’ve read about in combination with the C.D. and still hope to achieve the kind of birth I wish to, or are the classes an essential part of hypnobirthing success?
Many many thanks in advance
all information is greatly appreciated

I used the Bradley method with all my births. It is similar to hypnobirthing. The book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way contains what you need to practice. If you read and practice daily for a few months, it is enough. I have had four births and it really does work. My husband took a picture of me during a contraction in transition. It looked like I was sleeping. I only had a moderate ache with labor. It was not as bad as menstrual cramps.

Has anyone tried Hypnobirthing? Did it help ur birth?
I start a hypnobirthing class tomorrow and just wondered if it helped you?
How was ur birth after using it
Did it help ur partner also to know what to do while u were in labour (my poor husband is scared to death, he denies it but i can tell lol)
Thanks x

hi there
i did the hypnobirthing however didn’t do the classes, just did the hypnosis cd’s everyday for 3 weeks, i didn’t use it during the birth though.
my husband was useless regardless and didn’t even know his own name.
i do think it helped relax me and somehow i was still blowdrying my hair with contractions about 2 minutes apart, eventually i got to the hospital at 10 cm. dilated and was pushing in minutes. no stitches and the midwives were completely shocked with how well i handled it and my mother in law thought i was just weird as it was a terrible smooth process for a first baby.
i like to think it was down to this after hearing other people’s horror stories.
good luck

Birthing Class Question – HypnoBirthing vs Bradley Method???
I am 22wks pregnant w/ my husband & my first child. I am interested in taking childbirthing classes, particularly Bradley or HypnoBirthing. He and I will be attending classes together – we want to be as informed and ready as possible for our little boy’s grand entrance!
Has anyone taken these classes? What did you like about them? What did you dislike? Did they help you acheive the birth you wanted? I appreciate your help. Thanks guys.

I went to the bradley method classes and i loved it! I recommend it to everyone. I am a huge wimp and have no tolerence for pain but the classes taught me the negative side of pain meds and that my body has been made for doing this. Not everyone needs help but for those of us that do, I found it very useful.

My dr wants to induce because the baby is too big at 38 weeks. Has anyone been induced without using epidural?
I took Hypnobirthing classes that promote natural birth with no medical interventions. I am willing to take my doctor’s advice and induce, but I would still like to try without epidural. I would only like to hear successful stories please

I was induced at 38 weeks, with my first i didnt have a epidural. He induced me at 2:00 pm and I had her at 10:57 pm, i did not want the epidural, i was actually talking and laughing through my labor till 10:00 thats when I really felt the contractions. It felt so much better to be able to get up and walk after delivery than being wheeled in a room because of a epidural. I think you can do it.
