Anyone doing hypnobirthing? Is it helping you?
I start a class tomorrow and just wondered what ur experience of it was.
Thanks everyone xx
Mr Englishman, you made me laugh, i liked that, thanks x
Beeka … its a way of controlling yourself through mind control, i think its similar to the effects yoga is meant to have on ur mind (without all the bendy positions).
It seems to be fab from what i’ve heard.
It costs hundreds to do the classes but i’m managing to get it through the NHS for £20 (that would be about $40)
Its a wonderful opportunity for me so i had to say yes c

I am just kidding, sending you all my very best wishes. Everyone will tell you how hard having kids is, and it is sometimes hard, but it will be the very best experience of your entire life. One that will last for the rest of your life.
If you have ever thought that you have loved someone before, you’ll realise that love is an honour, and your baby will have your love forever.
God bless you.

Nancy asks…
don’t want the epidural?
i’m due to have my first baby anytime, and i didn’t do any birthing classes. i really feel nervous about giving birth, but i don’t want to have to have an epidural– im not TOTALLY objected to it, but my mom said she hated it and i’m really scared of needles, etc.
i’ve read up on birthing methods like bradley and hypnobirthing but what are some things i can do to prepare and to help so i dont’ have to have the epidural?
do you think i’ll need it regardless?

I am not digging an epi either, and you don’t HAVE to have one just because you didn’t take ‘classes’.
Lamaze teaches you how to breathe through the pain. There are three types of breathing techniques and 4 stages of labor. I will go through them briefly with you and hopefully it will help you and keep you as comfortable as possible. Each contraction should last approx 60 seconds and the closest they should be is 60 seconds apart. So a cycle of contracts at the shortest is 2 minutes.
1st stage is when your body first goes into labor and you get very happy knowing that the baby is on it’s way. For this stage you do a slow pattern of breathing. Take one deep breath in to indicate the start of the contraction. Then you take a slow breath in for about 5 seconds and then out for about 5 seconds. The minute should have to take 4-6 breaths in and out. At the end of the contraction you take one more deep breath in and out, just like the first breath.
The second stage consists of harder contractions. This is when you do a shorter pattern of breathing. You take one deep breath in. Then you breath in and out for about one second each. You really have to be careful as you can hyperventilate. Practice this at home. You should take about 25-30 breaths in and out in the minute contraction. And one deep breath in and out just like the first one.
The third stage is when the contractions get very difficult and painful. You take one deep breath in and then start a whole different type of breathing. There are two types of patterns you can do depending on the intensity of the contraction. The first is like this:
he, he, he ohhhhh.
The other one is basically the same but you will be going from ’6′ he’s and one ohhhhhh down to ’5′, to ’4′ etc till you get to one each and then back up again to ’6′ he’s.
And you always start and end each contraction with a deep breath in.
The forth stage is Pushing, and all you need to do there is push that baby outta you! The nurses can assist you with that.
With the first 2 types of breathing patterns you can actually alternate within the contraction. As each contraction gets stronger you can start with the slow breathing moving up to the faster breating and then go back to the slower breathing.
This is very similiar to meditation, the concept is the same. You want to take your mid as far away from the pain as possible. Breathing and even having distractions will greatly help this. Music, a book, something that you like to look at or do.
Good luck.

Susan asks…
Which did you choose?
Witch birthing class/method did you choose???
Did you have OR are you planning to hire a doula or other professional labor support???
if you feel like it you can add why you did or did-not like that method for your birth.
1. No classes – we just winged it…
2. Hospital Lamaz
3. Private Lamaz
4. Bradley Method – Husband Coached CHildbirth
5. Birthing From Within
6. Hypnobirthing
7. Other…Expalin…
First child hospital lamaze for us…we didn’t realize until after our horrible birth experience (botched induction with 2 hours of pushing that ended in c-section) how little the class really taught us…
2nd time round we did Birthing From Within, it was great it really helped me get over fears I had…We a natural unmedicated homebirth with a midwife & doula, I also had done a ton, i mean a TON of reading…

We did no classes before hand. I honestly figured I would just forget everything they told me, or be in so much pain I wouldn’t be able to breath the way they instructed. So when I was in labour, I just found my own ways to cope…quietness when I was contracting, slow breathing to get through it. Some people like to be alone, I liked to have friends and family there to try to keep my mind of the pain in the early stages. I tried the bath and it made me feel worse, I walked a lot and that helped…when it came to pushing, my doctor told me to puch like i had to poop…and lone behold it worked GREAT lol. I pushed for 42 minutes and hse was out.
But thats just me and what worked for us. My sister in-law did the birthing classes and I think she liked them. To each their own!

Laura asks…
I need a good online support community for young pregnant moms to be?!?
I’m 19 years old and I recently got pregnant (I’m 16 weeks)
I am from Toronto, Canada but moved to Bahrain (Middle East) about 6 months ago. I got pregnant in Bahrain. I am married to a wonderful man.
Anyway, I just feel so lonely here because there is no support community for young moms and services/classes like they have in Toronto! I was wondering if any new mom to be or mom has a favourite friendly forum site they like to go on and vent about what is going on in their pregnancy. I really would like to have a healthy pregnancy- physically and emotionally.
My interests are: cooking, and reading – having a natural pregnancy – hypnobirthing, water birth
I haven’t read up too much on natural pregnancy as there is almost no such thing here and the medical hospitals here with regards to childbirth are MUCH worse than they are in the US.
I had a hard time looking for these pregnancy books in any library but luckily I can order them but they usually come after a very long time and are very expensive!!

It is international, but most are from the States. BUT, there is a group for everything, even young moms and water birthing. Take a look, and take care.

Mark asks…
Hypnobirthing classes?
Hi peeps. im seriously considering these classes as childbirth petrifies me. Has anyone ever had these classes and did they help u at all? Are the classes approved by midwifes? Hope u can help. Thank you x
also..can u still have the epidural if you’v had the classes x

Hello i’m a midwife and i have attended hypnobirth conferences. I would really recommend attending the classes especially as you say you are terrified of birth. Just make sure the midwife that is at your delivery understands what you want to do. good luck.
